The ancient legends explaining the origin of the Assi River and the Assi Ghat proclaim that it was Goddess Durga who created the stream when her sword struck the ground while annihilating the demon Shumbha-Nishumbha. The stream was thereafter referred to as River Assi. Assi Ghat is where the Ganges and River Assi converge in holy union. It is also believed that Tulsidas, the author of Ramcharitramanas, took his last breath at Assi Ghat. Subah-e-Benaras is a one-of-a-kind pre-dawn programme. It includes cultural and spiritual activities such as Ganga Aarti, Yoga and Vedic Chanting.
The oldest and holiest place in Varanasi, Dashashwamedh Ghat is known for its famous Ganga aarti. The elaborate and enchanting ceremony takes place at dusk. Several priests gather by the banks of the holy river to pay tribute to the divine soul of the Ganges. The captivating ritual makes for a riveting sight as the flames of the many-tiered lamps are moved to the rhythm of cymbals and conch shells. We arrange a boat ride for our guests to witness this phenomenon from the best viewpoint.
